Although its very nice to hear that the US has pulled out from this years conference and the UK claims how determined they are to ensure the conference doesn't just become another blatant Anti-Semitic, anti-Israel front and so on, is there really enough uproar and protest to de-legitimize the conference and the fuel it will give to the current rise of Anti-Semitic uprisings and propaganda in Europe?
i agree, aside from the magnitude of the scandal of course, is the ripple effect that i consider it will cause. Madoff- a Jew, and a powerful one at that, has only increased the already widespread perception that Jews are money and power hungry. Has he caused irreparable damage- of trust and of perception?
Whatever his reasons may be for the decision, his position as a role model and a leader of many has influence, and therefore so does his decisions. So whether he intended to or not, the pope is justifying Mr. Wiliamson's terrifying views -that it is OK to deny the holocaust.
