Durban II - Activism at its best
In the wake of anti-Semitic and anti-Israel aggression which erupted at the 2001 Durban Conference Against Racism, plus an upsurge of anti-Semitic hostility on university campuses, 2009 saw Jewish student bodies and Israeli delegations turn up in droves to Durban II. Constituting 1/10 of the accredited activists at the conference and representing a plethora of academic and cultural backgrounds, their voices were joined by the likes of Alan Dershowitz, Eli Wiesel, Prof. Irwin Cotler, Anne Bayefsky, Bernard Henri Levy, Jon Voight and Father Patrick Desbois.
Equipped with clown wigs, dapper suits and blogging expertese, the student caucus voiced dissent against the debacle of an international human rights forum chaired by Libya, Iran, Pakistan and Cuba- for which Ahmedinejad orated the opening speech.
