There are many forms of sustainability, - economical, social, environmental. Guess what - Jewish continuity is also the form of sustainability. While environmental sustainability comes thru our way of treating the land fairly and economic advocates for local economy, Jewish sustainability is one that has been supporting Jewish communities in their mission of education, identity and culture. Although, Jewish spirituality reaches the highest peaks, Jewish practices are all about keeping your feet on the ground.
It seems Judaism knows how to take the agricultural logic behind making compost (not waste) and applying it to financial systems of erasing Shmitah debt, thus creating more equal access to resources. Sounds complex? You wouldn’t believe how natural this will feel once you start listening. Apparently, Jewish tradition proves sustainability in a very holistic way.
The First SIACH Conference
Siach is an Environment and Social Justice Conversation that launched on May 2011, acting as a global network of experienced Jewish environment/social justice professionals, and highly dedicated lay leaders, from Israel, North America, and Europe. Its goal is to connect and foster collaboration based upon a shared passion and commitment to Tzedek and Tikkun Olam.
Leadel joined Siach as a media partner and will be presenting a series of spotlights dedicated to sharing some of the ideas and thoughts that came up during this fascinating and important encounter.
