Sarah Aroeste trained as an opera singer before becoming envious of American Ashkenazi Jews, who enjoyed a revival of their old culture. She turned to her own Greek Jewish roots and to the language of Ladino for inspiration, and soon found herself singing modern interpretations of ancient songs to enthusiastic audiences.
