Occupation of Jew-Doer: Founder and operator of TweetYourPrayers.org
Description
I admit - I'm nominating myself here. I believe I have a good reason to though..
I founded TweetYourPrayers, which is a twitter based service that takes people's tweeted prayers to the Western Wall. This service has gotten very big, very fast, and was featured on all major news channels / newspapers / websites, etc.
I found out that my work on TYP has a great impact on people's lives. First of all, merely sending their prayers to Jerusalem gives them an incredible sense of hope, which is remarkable. Having hope is the key to a better life. People get hope, belief, self-confidence, and in that way they're making good things happen in their lives - which means that the work I do not only touches lives - but helps to improve them.
Secondly, because people know I'm just one guy operating this service for free, they're inspired to help others too. People all over the world have been volunteering (e.g. - volunteering in soup kitchens, old-folks homes, animal shelters, tutoring children...) and making a change in their communities. True, those are all small changes, but they are indeed significant and they accumulate to a substantial effect.
I'm applying for this contest because I desperately need a new computer. I'm running TYP using an old, barely working, PC. I need a new computer to keep doing the work that I do, to advance and improve this service, and just to keep doing what I want to do - reach and help as many people as I can.
I'd appreciate it if you would consider me for the prize.
Thank you.
