Welcome to the “Jews That Do” Video Contest

Important Contest Updates:

Grand Prize Winner: Sasha Perry — Los Angeles, California Earth’s Promise

Earth’s Promise” is filmed in Israel, edited in the U.S. and commands the attention of a global population. Perry captures how individuals can truly make a difference as this short documentary tells the story of a Jewish activist, Isaac Hametz, doing his part to spread ecological consciousness in Be’er Sheva by helping to create a green city through urban agriculture, such as composting satellites and better resource management. In doing so, Isaac is bringing the dispersed Ethiopian olim (immigrants) back to a sense of community. Through these efforts, he hopes to revitalize the Negev, which he sees as Israel’s future.

For the rest of the winners and stories behind them, check out our Blog Post.

Contest Guidelines:

Subjects can be anything from street musicians to prime ministers, humble shopkeepers to intellectuals, teachers to activists to pro-bono giving doctors and lawyers. We want to hear from your grandmother and your little brother.  We want to be moved, inspired, and touched by the full diversity of the contemporary Jewish experience.

We want you to share with us the Jewish people you find most inspiring.  Perhaps we'll find them inspiring too.

As opposed to all those "other" contests out there "Jews That Do" is Grass Roots, completely user generated and taps the web 2.0 community by utilizing new media and social networking.

He/she who enters the video Wins.  That someone can be You.  There is no age limit, but you do have to be at least Bar/Bat Mitzvah age.  It can be someone you know well.  Or someone you don't.  Maybe you've seen a stranger on the street, in the subway, or at your office who inspires you and are able to catch him/her on film.  The only requirement is that all subjects be Jewish (as liberally defined by Taglit, Birthright).

And don't worry, it doesn't have to be professional!  Use your cell phone, flip camera, digital camera, video camcorder, anything that takes video clips.
In return, we'll share your "Jew-Doer" with the world and give you the opportunity to win some fantastic prizes!

GRAND PRIZE WINNER: 13" MacBook Pro

First & Second Runners-Up: Ipod Touch

Third, Fourth and Fifth Runners-Up: 8G Ipod Nano

What To Do???

Everyone knows someone that inspires them, so it's so easy!

1.  Create a video --> Just create and send us a video pitch 00:30 - 5:00 min long that best spotlights your Jew-Doer.

2.  Upload your video to YouTube. --> Once uploaded, copy your embed code and head to our application page.

3.  Submit your video by  Applying online. --> All applications are given individual attention

**Be effective and creative in how you convey their excellence, as we're not looking for technical wizardry.  We're seeking passion and inspiration. Again, homemade videos are perfectly acceptable and no entry requires professional experience.  However, a little flare and imagination never hurt and will go a looooong way!
