This Thursday, May 13 at 7:30pm in Merkaz HaMagshamim's Center Stage Theatre in the German Colony neighborhood of Jerusalem, a special show rolls into the Holy City: an improv group in the fine tradition of "What's my line, anyway?" and "Monty Python," but with a sabra (or sabra-to-be) twist. Named after the popular Israeli coffee drink, the hafuch (basically an espresso, literally meaning "upside-down"), Molly Livingstone and her crew, including the prolific American-Israeli blogger, comedian and writer—and friend of the show—Benji Lovitt, knows there is much more to this place than the daily balagan.
Molly Livingstone, Benji Lovitt, and company know that there is much more to this place than the daily balagan.

Expect wisecracks about pushy merchants at your local shuk, creative parking methods (sidewalks aren't just for pedestrians and bikers), or the outrageously low gratuity (ten percent?!). As Lovitt says on his blog, "If you missed the first show, it was a smashing success with a packed room of 120 people. Improv, sketches, musical guest, and more. The highlight in my humble opinion are the sketches with some hilarious looks at what makes this country funny." Lovitt's blog, What War Zone??, is a trusted source of news and analysis from the Levant.
That's right, and they sold out their last show - so if you're in Jerusalem and hope to attend, be sure to call the box office to reserve your tix now - 052-603-9115! In other news tomorrow, May 12, is Yom HaStudentim (Students' Day). This spring holiday means open houses in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and—well, everywhere. Look for cool parties; it shouldn't be too hard to find one. Here's a fun fact: just two years ago, Arab students and Jewish sympathizers demonstrated at Tel Aviv University on Student Day because it coincided with the "Nakba" (catastrophe), how Israel's Arab citizens see the founding of the state. (It turned a little violent, incidentally.)
Anyway, politics aside it is going to be a crazy week, and not just for comedy-lovers and students but indeed for all Israelis and whoever still likes them. The world loves us, right? 'Cuz we're funny and smart. Good, just checking.
