Random "FB" Buzz Words:

** Tag ** Poke ** Status
** Wall ** Event ** Post
** Note ** Photos ** Comment
** @ ** Message ** !!!!

I recently had coffee with a dear friend (you know how you are) and the topic of goofy, technicaly business terms came up.  Honestly, when you take them out of context like that, social media buzz words do sound silly.  And that's only the beginning, I didn't touch other social media applications such as Twitter, Blogger, Hootsuite.  For the record, this beyond-phenomenon we call Facebook (FB), one of the largest global social networks available that connects, shares, and allows for individuals to stay in touch across nations, geographic boundaries, and even your office space - STILL amazes me.

Sometimes I even have the pleasure of going on consulting visits where I can to talk about my favorite silly buzz words.  So, because I was asked, here are my varitiations of the myriad of buzz words we've all established as part of our daily lingo thanks to Facebook.

Status:  Member's personal updates - the status of what you're doing, where you are, how you feel, etc.
Wall:  Each individuals personal profile space where he/she can write status updates and have other people post their own posts
Comment:  Opinions and reactions to wall posts or notes or videos or pictures
Post:  A comment written on your wall or note
Tag: When in a post, that post will show up on "tagged person's" wall.  Sometimes it's because you think that person/org should either pay attention or you want his/her opinion.  Or maybe you just like him/her.  When in a picture, it's meant to show that "tagged person" is present in the picture.
@:  The symbol of how to tag someone in a comment, post, note or status
Poke:  The poke is merely a poke, people.  Everyone has their own version and innuendo of what it could and should be, but really, it's just a virtual poke.
Event:  These are meant to corrale people together, invite, and notify others of activities and events happening
Note: These are longer than stati, and can be linked to bigger, better, deals.
Message:  These are private messages.  When sent its like an email where only the To: receivers (not counting Cc: or Bcc:) see your message.

All that said, it is the Post and Status updates on someone's Wall that are the talk of the town and usual peanut galeries.

Have a look at these great examples:

To our left we have a random post I wrote inviting a couple friends for Coffee on my balcony that spread into the current planning of the next 'informal International Jewish Bloggers Convention' :-)

Scroll down for our next example...

Below we have  (in my opinion) the Facebook Queen, Aliza Davidof's, who also happens to be a journalist, author, and classical pianist!  Here's on of her latest entourage explosions of 50+ comments on simple statement calling on the female readers out there.

Aliza's Post:

"I'd love to have more women join my page and help put the men in their place :)"

Oddly enough, mostly men commented on this post.  What's up with that, Aliza?? :)

Anyway, folks.  There's your buzzy FB lesson for today. Stay tuned, though.  Maybe there'll be a Tweeting Twitter Tawk in your future...
